Platee is so interesting because she is a comic character that we come to kind of love. She believes in herself, even though this giant trick is being played on her. The end, where her ego is crushed, is sort of tragic. One hopes she can recover, move on in her own fantasy; but the cruelty is very sharp.

Fantastic to hear the birds singing alongside such a wonderful baritone and pianist. RVW surely would have wholeheartedly approved.
